Elden Ring: Nightreign will omit the in-game messaging feature, a departure from previous FromSoftware titles. Project director Junya Ishizaki explained this decision in a recent interview, citing the game's shorter play sessions. With Nightreign's approximately forty-minute gameplay sessions, there's insufficient time for players to effectively leave or read messages.
"Given the roughly forty-minute session length, there isn't enough time to send or read messages, so we disabled the feature," Ishizaki stated.
This choice is notable, considering the significant role messaging has played in enhancing player interaction and enjoyment in past FromSoftware games. However, the development team deemed the feature unsuitable for Nightreign's design.
To maintain the integrity of the original Elden Ring, Nightreign features a separate narrative. It offers a fresh adventure with unique challenges and encounters while preserving the atmosphere and intricate design of the Elden Ring world.
