Supercell's Squad Busters: A Solid Start, But Falling Short of Expectations
Supercell's new MOBA RTS, Squad Busters, has achieved 40 million installs and $24 million in net revenue within its first month. This performance was particularly strong in the US, followed by Indonesia, Brazil, Turkey, and South Korea.
However, these figures, while respectable, fall significantly short of Supercell's previous successes. The game's revenue is considerably lower than Brawl Stars' $43 million and Clash Royale's $115 million in their respective first months. Furthermore, installs have steadily declined since the initial week's peak of 30 million, dropping to under five million by the end of the month.
Supercell Fatigue?
The diminishing returns for Squad Busters, a game Supercell clearly invested heavily in, raise questions. For context, Honkai Star Rail generated a staggering $190 million in its first month, highlighting the significant gap.
While Squad Busters is a well-made game, its similarity to Supercell's existing titles may indicate a potential market saturation – a case of "Supercell fatigue." The game's long-term performance will be crucial in determining if this is a temporary setback or a more significant trend.
