CD Projekt Red recently shared exciting details about The Witcher 4, revealing new regions and terrifying creatures in an interview with Gamertag Radio.
The Witcher 4 Expands its World with New Regions and Monsters
A Glimpse into Stromford and the Bauk
Following the Game Awards 2024, game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga spoke with Gamertag Radio, confirming the introduction of fresh locales and monsters.
Ciri's journey will lead players to unexplored corners of the Continent. Kalemba identified the village in the reveal trailer as Stromford, a place where a disturbing ritual involving young girls takes place to appease their deity.
This "god," revealed to be a monster named Bauk, draws inspiration from Serbian mythology. Kalemba described Bauk as a cunning and terrifying foe, promising a chilling encounter. And Bauk isn't alone; players can expect a host of new monstrous adversaries.
While eager to discuss these additions, Kalemba remained tight-lipped about specific details, emphasizing the novelty of the experience while promising more reveals later.
A subsequent Skill UP interview on December 15, 2024, confirmed that The Witcher 4's map size will be comparable to The Witcher 3. Stromford's location in the far north suggests Ciri's adventures will extend beyond Geralt's previously explored territories.
Enhanced NPC Interactions and Immersive Detail
The Gamertag Radio interview also highlighted advancements in NPC development. Addressing the reuse of NPC models in The Witcher 3, Kalemba stated that The Witcher 4 aims for greater diversity and realism. Each NPC will have a unique life and story, influencing their interactions with Ciri and other characters. The close-knit nature of a secluded village like Stromford will further shape these interactions.
CD Projekt Red is also refining NPC visuals, behavior, and facial expressions to enhance immersion. Kalemba emphasized the goal of creating a more immersive experience than its predecessors.
While details remain scarce, the improvements to NPC interaction promise a more engaging and believable world. For more information on The Witcher 4, be sure to check out our dedicated article!
