Civilization VII's Early Access Launch Met with Negative Steam Reviews
Civilization VII (Civ 7) launched its Advanced Access five days ahead of its February 11th release, but the early reception on Steam has been overwhelmingly negative. The game currently holds a "mostly negative" rating, primarily due to criticisms surrounding the user interface (UI), map mechanics, and resource management.

UI Concerns: Many players find the UI significantly inferior to Civ VI's, describing it as "janky" and visually unappealing. Some even went so far as to compare it to a free mobile game, suggesting a potential prioritization of console development over PC optimization. The perceived lack of UI customization options further fuels this criticism.

Map Issues: The map system also drew considerable flak. Players complained about limited map size options (only small, medium, and large, compared to Civ VI's five), a lack of customization, and insufficient information provided when browsing map types. The overall map selection process was also criticized as cumbersome.

Resource Mechanics: The shift in resource mechanics from direct tile gathering (as in Civ VI) to a city/empire-based strategic management system proved controversial. Players argued that the older system offered greater replayability.

Firaxis Response: Firaxis Games acknowledged the negative feedback, specifically addressing UI concerns and promising ongoing improvements. They also hinted at future updates and expansions to address map-related issues, encouraging players to provide further feedback. The developer's response, however, has not yet appeased the negative sentiment surrounding the game's launch.
