Will Wright, creator of The Sims, recently shared new details about his upcoming AI life simulation game, Proxi, on a Twitch livestream. This innovative game, initially announced in 2018, focuses on personal memories and is being developed by Gallium Studio. Learn more about this unique interactive memory experience below!
A Deep Dive into Personal Memories
Wright's appearance was part of BreakthroughT1D's Dev Diaries series, a Twitch initiative partnering with game developers to raise funds for Type 1 diabetes research. The interview provided a fascinating look into Proxi's core mechanics.
Proxi is described as an "AI life sim built from your memories." Players input personal memories as text, which the game then transforms into animated scenes. These scenes are customizable using in-game assets for greater accuracy. Each memory, termed a "mem," enhances the game's AI and contributes to the player's "mind world"—a navigable 3D environment of hexagons.
As the mind world expands, it populates with Proxies representing friends and family. Memories can be arranged chronologically and linked to specific Proxies to recreate the context of the original experience. Remarkably, these Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds, including Minecraft and Roblox!
The game aims to create "magical connections" with memories, bringing them to life in a deeply personal way. Wright emphasized this focus on individual experience, stating, "I found myself getting continuously closer and closer to the player," adding that player-centric design is key to success.
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements expected soon.
