After the releases of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, several CD Projekt RED veterans, including the team behind The Blood of Dawnwalker, chose to pursue independent ventures.
Recently unveiled, The Blood of Dawnwalker is developed by Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by a CD Projekt RED veteran.
Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, explaining his departure from CDPR, cited several key reasons:
A desire to pursue new creative directions with trusted colleagues led to the formation of Rebel Wolves. Their shared passion for RPGs and their history fueled a belief that RPG mechanics could be significantly evolved and expanded upon. This involved exploring unconventional ideas, a challenge they felt would be difficult to achieve within the constraints of a large corporation, particularly when working with new intellectual property. The inherent risks associated with these novel approaches ultimately necessitated the creation of their own studio.
Rebel Wolves prioritizes strong interpersonal relationships and open communication, fostering a collaborative environment unlike larger studios. Tomaszkiewicz believes this smaller team structure facilitates more efficient communication and simpler alignment around the creative vision, resulting in a more vibrant and innovative atmosphere. This close-knit approach allows for a more intense creative process and the easier realization of unique ideas.
