Capcom is optimizing Monster Hunter Wilds for improved performance and reduced GPU requirements before its release. This follows feedback from the initial open beta test, which revealed performance issues for some players.

Lowering the GPU Barrier
A recent announcement on the German Monster Hunter Twitter (X) account highlighted performance improvements, particularly in the PS5's Prioritize Framerate mode. This mode boosts frames per second (fps) at the expense of some visual detail. Capcom is undertaking similar optimization efforts for the PC version, aiming to lower the recommended GPU requirements. Currently, the minimum requirements include an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Success in this endeavor would broaden accessibility for players with less powerful hardware.

A free benchmarking tool is also planned to help players assess their system's compatibility.

Addressing Beta Concerns
The October/November 2024 beta test revealed several performance problems, including low-polygon character models and frame rate drops, even on high-end PCs. While some players found workarounds, these often involved sacrificing visual quality. Capcom acknowledged these issues, stating that improvements have been made since the beta, including a fix for afterimage noise in Frame Generation mode.

A second open beta test (February 7-10 and 14-17, 2025) for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam will feature Gypceros and a new monster. Whether these performance enhancements will be fully implemented in this beta remains to be seen.
