Deadlock's major update, months in the making, is finally here, transforming its four-lane battlefield into a streamlined three-lane arena. Read on to discover the significant changes and updates coming to Deadlock.
Deadlock Announces Major Update
From Four Lanes to Three: A Map Overhaul

Deadlock's latest update dramatically reshapes its core gameplay by reducing the map from four lanes to three. This simplification, detailed in a February 26, 2025 Steam post, extends far beyond lane reduction. The update encompasses a wide array of changes, impacting visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakable objects, power-up buffs, juke spots, the mid-boss encounter, and more. While Deadlock's unique third-person perspective in the MOBA genre sets it apart, the previous four-lane structure presented a complexity this update aims to address.
Further enhancements include streamlined enemy trooper farming. Players no longer need to last-hit enemies to summon Soul Orbs, significantly easing early-game resource acquisition. The patch notes also highlight improvements to netcode and client performance.
A Vital Update for Deadlock's Future

This update could be the catalyst Deadlock needs to reignite player interest. After reaching an all-time peak of 171,490 concurrent players in September 2024, the game experienced a substantial 90% decline in player count, with only around 17,000 active players last month.
In January 2025, Valve Developer Yoshi explained on Deadlock's Discord server the reasoning behind the adjusted update schedule. The previous bi-weekly update cycle proved too restrictive for implementing desired changes. Yoshi stated, "Going forward, major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We look forward to fleshing out the game in the new year."
