Rogue Loops: A Hades-Inspired Roguelike with a Twist
The upcoming indie roguelike, Rogue Loops, is generating excitement with its striking resemblance to Hades in both art style and core gameplay loop. However, Rogue Loops introduces a unique mechanic that sets it apart. While a release date hasn't been officially announced (currently slated for early 2025 on PC), a free demo on Steam allows players to experience the action firsthand.
The game features a familiar roguelike structure: a repeating dungeon with randomized loot and ability upgrades. But Rogue Loops adds a layer of complexity with its ability upgrade system. Each upgrade comes with a distinct downside, significantly impacting gameplay strategy. These "curses," unlike the temporary effects in Hades' Chaos Gates, can potentially last an entire playthrough, adding a strategic layer of risk and reward.
This top-down dungeon crawler immerses players in a time loop narrative, focusing on a family trapped within a deadly cycle. Players navigate five floors, each teeming with unique enemies and bosses. As with most roguelikes, repeated runs unlock procedural upgrades, enabling players to craft diverse character builds utilizing both beneficial and detrimental effects.
While a precise release date remains elusive, the Steam page indicates a Q1 2025 launch. In the meantime, the free demo offers access to the first floor, providing a taste of the gameplay. For those eager for more roguelike action, Dead Cells and Hades 2 offer compelling alternatives until Rogue Loops' full release.
