The latest entry in Capcom's iconic Monster Hunter series, Monster Hunter Wilds, has shattered records just 30 minutes after its launch on Steam. With concurrent players exceeding 675,000 and soon hitting the 1 million mark, it boasts the most successful launch not only in the Monster Hunter franchise but across all of Capcom's games. The previous record was held by Monster Hunter: World (2018) with 334,000 active players, followed by Monster Hunter Rise (2022) with 230,000. Despite this monumental achievement, the game has encountered significant technical challenges, leading to a wave of negative reviews on Steam due to bugs and frequent crashes.
Monster Hunter Wilds introduces a standalone storyline that serves as an excellent starting point for newcomers. Set in a world teeming with dangerous creatures, players embark on a journey through the mysterious Forbidden Lands. Here, they will encounter the legendary "White Ghost," a mythical beast, and interact with enigmatic Guardians, enriching the narrative with depth and intrigue.
Prior to its release, the game garnered mostly positive feedback, although some critics pointed out that Capcom may have simplified the gameplay mechanics to appeal to a wider audience. However, many players and reviewers praise these modifications, noting that they enhance the game's accessibility while maintaining its depth and quality.
Monster Hunter Wilds is now available on modern consoles including PS5 and Xbox Series, as well as on PC.
