Final Fantasy XIV is officially coming to mobile devices, bringing years of content to players on the go. Developed by Tencent's Lightspeed Studios in collaboration with Square Enix, this mobile version will allow players to explore the world of Eorzea anytime, anywhere.
The announcement ends months of speculation and confirms the mobile adaptation of the critically acclaimed MMORPG. Initially launched in 2012 to a mixed reception, Final Fantasy XIV underwent a significant overhaul ("A Realm Reborn") which revitalized the game and cemented its place as a flagship title for Square Enix.
The mobile version promises a substantial amount of content at launch, including nine playable jobs and the return of popular minigames like Triple Triad. The Armoury system will allow players to seamlessly switch between jobs.
A significant milestone
This mobile port marks a significant achievement for Final Fantasy XIV, considering its tumultuous history and subsequent remarkable success. The partnership with Tencent underscores the importance of this mobile release and suggests a strong collaborative relationship between the two companies.
While the initial mobile release might not include all the content from the PC and console versions, a phased rollout of expansions and updates is anticipated. This approach prioritizes a smooth launch experience while gradually adding the expansive content library developed over the years.
