Ubisoft quietly launches a new NFT game: Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E.
Ubisoft's Latest NFT Venture
Ubisoft's latest release, Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E, a top-down multiplayer arcade shooter, requires players to purchase an NFT to participate, as reported by Eurogamer on December 20th.
This game expands the universe of the Netflix series, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, incorporating familiar Ubisoft IPs like Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed. Limited to 10,000 players, access is granted via a purchased Citizen ID Card NFT. This card tracks player performance and achievements, evolving based on in-game progress.
The ID card, costing $25.63, is purchased through Ubisoft's Magic Eden page. Owners can later resell or relinquish their citizenship. A full launch is scheduled for Q1 2025, with early access for those who acquire the ID early.
A Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon Spin-off
The game's narrative is rooted in the Netflix series, a spin-off of Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon DLC. Set in a 1992 alternate reality where the US is a megacorporation-controlled technocracy called Eden, the series follows Dolph Laserhawk, a supersoldier, and his journey after defection and subsequent capture.
While Ubisoft hasn't detailed the game's storyline, it shares the same universe. Players assume the role of Eden citizens, influencing the narrative through mission completion, leaderboard rankings, and community participation.
