DC Studios co-chief James Gunn addresses online criticism regarding Superman's expression during a flight sequence in a recently released TV spot.
A new 30-second promotional video showcased scenes of Lex Luthor near the Fortress of Solitude and Superman performing a barrel roll during high-speed flight. This aerial shot sparked online discussion, with viewers commenting on Superman's seemingly unnatural facial stillness while his hair and cape moved dynamically. Some attributed this to subpar CGI.
However, Gunn refuted these claims on Threads, stating unequivocally that no CGI was used on Corenswet's face. He explained the effect as a result of close-up wide-angle lens usage, emphasizing that both the Svalbard location and Corenswet's performance were entirely real. Svalbard, a Norwegian archipelago, served as a filming location for the movie.
Despite Gunn's clarification, debate continues among fans, with comparisons drawn to the flying Adam Warlock sequence in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, also directed by Gunn. Regardless, anticipation remains high for the Superman film, slated for release on July 11, 2025, as the inaugural film in the DCU's "Gods and Monsters" chapter. Further information is available on IGN regarding the film's heroes and villains, Gunn's comments on Krypto's personality, and the film's thematic focus on hope.
