Oscar Isaac's Star Wars Celebration 2025 Appearance Fuels Poe Dameron Return Speculation
Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac's confirmed appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited speculation about a potential return of his character, Poe Dameron. The announcement, made via the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram, follows Daisy Ridley's 2023 Celebration appearance where she revealed her involvement in a new Star Wars film.
The Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with The Rise of Skywalker, leaving Isaac's stance on future Star Wars involvement somewhat ambiguous. While initially expressing reluctance, stating in 2020 that he'd only return for "another house or something," he later told Variety in 2022 that he was "open to anything," indicating a shift in perspective.
Isaac's past criticisms of Disney, particularly regarding the rejection of a romantic storyline between Poe and Finn (John Boyega's character), add another layer to the intrigue. Boyega also voiced past frustrations with Disney and the franchise, but like Isaac, has expressed openness to future roles.
This renewed speculation centers around the upcoming Rey film, set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, focusing on Rey's efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has publicly expressed her desire for Boyega's return, making the reunion of the Sequel Trilogy's main trio – Rey, Finn, and Poe – a highly anticipated possibility.
While Star Wars Celebration 2025 might offer some clarity, fans face a prolonged wait for definitive answers. Multiple Star Wars films have faced repeated delays, pushing back the earliest potential release date for the Rey film (directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy) to December 17, 2027.
