2K Games and 31st Union introduce Project ETHOS, a free-to-play hero shooter aiming to redefine the genre. Blending the dynamic elements of roguelikes with the strategic depth of hero-based combat, ETHOS delivers a thrilling third-person experience.
What makes Project ETHOS stand out? It seamlessly integrates the constant adaptation of roguelikes with unique hero abilities. Randomized "Evolutions" dramatically alter hero capabilities mid-match, forcing players to strategize on the fly. Transform your sniper into a close-quarters combatant or your support hero into a solo powerhouse – the possibilities are endless.
Project ETHOS features two core game modes:
Trials: This signature mode challenges teams of three against human and AI opponents. Collect Cores, strategically choose when to extract, and invest them in upgrades for future runs. Death means losing your Cores, adding a high-stakes element to every match. Join ongoing matches or wait for a fresh start – the choice is yours. The intensity is constant; be prepared for immediate encounters with formidable enemies! Earn XP through various means: looting, eliminating foes, and completing random events.
Gauntlet: A classic competitive PvP tournament mode. Battle through brackets, upgrading your hero with each victory, culminating in a final showdown. Elimination means waiting for the next round.
Project ETHOS will evolve through regular updates based on community feedback. The playtest, running October 17th-21st, offers a chance to shape the game's future.
