The reign of keyboard and mouse in PC gaming is undeniable, especially for genres like first-person shooters and strategy games where precision is paramount. However, some PC titles are surprisingly better suited to controllers. Reflex-heavy action games and those with a console heritage often benefit from gamepad controls.
While many PC releases strive for robust keyboard and mouse support, certain genres naturally lend themselves to controllers. Fast-paced melee combat and action-adventure titles often feel more intuitive with a gamepad.
Recent releases like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Infinity Nikki, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2, and Delta Force are generally superior with keyboard and mouse. Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered, however, offers a slightly enhanced experience with a gamepad, though the difference isn't drastic.
Several upcoming PC games show promise for controller play:
- Freedom Wars Remastered: A PS Vita port reminiscent of Monster Hunter, suggesting controller compatibility.
- Tales of Graces f Remastered: The Tales series consistently favors gamepads, and this remaster likely follows suit.
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: Given the predecessor's controller-centric PC experience and similar combat, a gamepad is likely preferable.
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2: A typical PS5-to-PC port, likely prioritizing controller input, although keyboard and mouse might be acceptable.
