This guide explains the Double Herald setup in Path of Exile 2, combining Herald of Ice and Herald of Thunder for devastating area-of-effect damage.
Key Components of the Double Herald Setup:
The Double Herald strategy requires four key elements:
Herald of Ice Skill Gem linked with
Lightning Infusion Support Gem.
Herald of Thunder Skill Gem linked with
Cold Infusion Support Gem (and ideally
Glaciation).
- 60 Spirit.
- A method to inflict Cold damage (explained below).
Remember to activate both Herald skills in your skill menu.
Initiating the Chain Reaction:
Effective Cold damage sources to initially trigger Herald of Ice include:
- Monk's Ice Strike (highly recommended).
- Passive skills boosting Freeze chance.
- Weapons/gloves with flat Cold damage.
Against the Darkness Time-Lost Diamond Jewel (+Cold damage%).
How the Heralds Interact:
The synergy lies in the damage conversion:
- Herald of Ice: Triggers upon shattering a frozen enemy. Lightning Infusion allows it to inflict Shock, even though it cannot Freeze.
- Herald of Thunder: Triggers upon killing a shocked enemy. Cold Infusion enables it to Freeze, despite its inability to Shock.
This creates a feedback loop: Herald of Ice's lightning shocks, triggering Herald of Thunder; Herald of Thunder's cold freezes, shattering and triggering Herald of Ice again. While an infinite chain is ideal, it typically lasts for one or two cycles due to enemy density. Breaches are exceptionally effective due to the high number of enemies.
The process starts by using a cold skill (like Ice Strike) to Freeze and shatter an enemy, activating Herald of Ice. This then triggers the chain reaction. Prioritizing Herald of Ice is strategic because Freeze is easier to inflict than Shock, and Herald of Thunder's lightning has better range.
