MultiVersus, the Warner Bros. platform fighter, is ending its run. Player First Games announced that Season 5, launching February 4th, 2025, will be its last, with online services ceasing on May 30th, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. This news follows a blog post detailing the game's closure.
The studio expressed gratitude to players and confirmed that all earned and purchased content will remain accessible offline via local and training modes after the online servers shut down. Real-money transactions have already ended, but Gleamium and character tokens can still be used until May 30th. The game will also be delisted from all major digital storefronts at that time.
The announcement comes after Warner Bros. Discovery reported MultiVersus as a significant financial underperformer, resulting in a substantial $100 million writedown. This contributed to a larger $300 million writedown for the games sector in 2024, alongside the underperformance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. This financial setback coincided with the departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad.
Despite the closure, Season 5 will include new content, notably the addition of Lola Bunny (unlockable via a daily calendar reward) and Aquaman (available through the battle pass) as playable characters.
