Sony's Latest Patents: AI-Powered Prediction and a DualSense Gun Attachment
Sony has filed two intriguing patents aimed at enhancing the gaming experience. These patents detail an AI-powered camera system for lag reduction and a realistic gun trigger attachment for the DualSense controller.

AI-Driven Lag Reduction:

A patent titled "Timed Input/Action Release" describes a camera system that monitors the player and controller. AI, utilizing machine learning, analyzes the player's movements to predict upcoming button presses. Alternatively, the system could interpret partial controller inputs to infer player intent. This predictive capability aims to proactively process inputs, mitigating online lag and improving responsiveness.
Enhanced Gunplay with a DualSense Attachment:

A second patent introduces a trigger attachment for the DualSense controller designed to enhance the realism of in-game gunfights. The attachment allows players to hold the controller sideways, mimicking a firearm grip, with the R1 and R2 buttons serving as the sights. Pulling the trigger simulates firing, adding a tactile dimension to shooting mechanics. The patent suggests compatibility with other devices, including the PSVR2 headset.
While Sony holds a vast patent portfolio (78% of its 95,533 patents are active), the realization of these concepts into actual products remains uncertain. Only time will reveal whether these innovative ideas will translate into tangible gaming enhancements.
