Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Mockup Reveals Key Features
Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, showcased a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing previously unconfirmed details. This model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, accurately reflects the console's dimensions and design.
Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed several key features in an interview with The Verge. The Joy-Con controllers utilize magnetic attachments, employing a pin release mechanism for detachment. Despite the magnetic design, Tsai assures users of secure controller grip during gameplay. Furthermore, the Joy-Con's mounting channels incorporate optical sensors, suggesting potential functionality as mouse-like peripherals via a yet-to-be-released accessory. Leaked images seemingly corroborate the presence of these sensors.
While larger than its predecessor, the Switch 2 maintains a slim profile, fitting within the existing Switch dock. However, structural differences render it incompatible with the older dock. The purpose of a new "C" button and additional USB-C port remains undisclosed by Genki.
