Slaying monsters is fun, but if you're aiming to collect all their parts in *Monster Hunter Wilds*, you'll need to master the art of capturing them. Here's your step-by-step guide to becoming a pro monster capturer.
Capturing Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds
Capturing monsters in *Monster Hunter Wilds* is straightforward but requires timing and preparation. Your goal is to weaken the monster, then use a trap and a Tranq item to secure it. It's simpler than it sounds!
Your Palico will alert you when a monster is weak enough to capture. Look out for other signs too: a skull icon appearing over the monster on your minimap, or the monster limping or drooling, indicating low HP.
When the monster is weak, it's time to set your trap. Choose between a Shock Trap or a Pitfall Trap and place it on the ground. Lure the monster over the trap, and once it's caught, it will be immobilized for a brief period. This is your chance to throw one or two Tranq Bombs at it to finalize the capture. Alternatively, you can use Tranq Ammo or Tranq Blades, depending on your weapon and preferred playstyle.
Successfully capturing a monster will conclude your quest and return you to Base Camp.
How to Get Traps and Tranq Items
While your Palico might occasionally set traps for you, it's wise to come prepared with your own. There are two types of traps: Pitfall Traps and Shock Traps. Craft a Pitfall Trap with a Trap Tool and a Net (either Spiderwebs or Ivy). For a Shock Trap, combine a Trap Tool with a Thunderbug Capacitor.
For Tranq items, craft a Tranq Bomb using a Sleep Herb and a Parashroom. You can then combine Tranq Bombs with Throwing Knives or Normal Ammo to create Tranq Blades and Tranq Ammo, respectively.
