Keanu Reeves has provided the most exciting update yet on the long-awaited sequel to the 2005 cult classic, "Constantine." Playing the role of John Constantine, an occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, Reeves has been keen on bringing a follow-up to life for over two decades. In a recent development, Reeves confirmed to Inverse that a pitch for "Constantine 2" was presented to DC Studios, and it was met with approval. "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay,’" Reeves shared. "So, we're going to try and write a script."
This news has sparked excitement among fans, though it's important to temper expectations. The project has not yet been officially greenlit by DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran, and "Constantine 2" is not currently listed as part of the rebooted DCU. Despite this, Reeves hinted that if the film does come to fruition, it will continue in "the same world" as the original. "We're not going off that," he assured, adding with a touch of humor, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."
Adding to the anticipation, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura revealed to ComicBook that a script for "Constantine 2" is already in his inbox. However, he admitted to being too nervous to read it, driven by a deep desire for it to meet the high expectations set by fans and himself. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough,” he said. “I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
