Dynasty Warriors 10 Discounted After Abrupt Cancellation

Dynasty Warriors: Origins Rises from the Ashes of a Cancelled Predecessor

Omega Force's Dynasty Warriors: Origins, launching January 17, 2025, boasts a thrilling hack-and-slash experience set against the backdrop of China's Three Kingdoms period. However, the game's development journey is marked by a significant turning point: the cancellation of Dynasty Warriors 10.

The decision to scrap the tenth mainline installment stemmed from a technological leap forward. Witnessing the capabilities of the PlayStation 5 and other contemporary consoles, the developers realized they could create a far superior experience. While bittersweet, abandoning Dynasty Warriors 10 allowed them to integrate its best features into Origins, resulting in a more modern and strategically rich gameplay experience.

Producer Tomohiko Sho highlighted the impact of next-gen console power in shifting development strategy. Producer Masamichi Oba elaborated on the integration of elements from the cancelled title, including the free-roaming map and a more in-depth exploration of the Three Kingdoms narrative, features initially envisioned for Dynasty Warriors 10. While abandoning the previous project was challenging, Oba emphasized the successful transplantation of key elements into Origins.

The resulting game retains the series' signature fast-paced combat, but with enhancements enabled by the technological advancements that ultimately led to the cancellation of its predecessor. Players assume the role of an amnesiac protagonist, encountering iconic figures from the Three Kingdoms era. Deluxe Edition players have already experienced the action, while the wider audience eagerly awaits the January 17th release. The cancellation of Dynasty Warriors 10 ultimately paved the way for a more ambitious and refined entry in the long-running franchise.
