Bungie temporarily disables Destiny 2's Hawkmoon hand cannon in PvP due to an exploit. The popular exotic weapon, known for its unique perks, was causing significant balance issues in Crucible matches. This isn't the first time Destiny 2, a live-service game, has faced such challenges; past incidents include the overpowered Prometheus Lens incident.
Despite the generally positive reception of the recent "The Final Shape" expansion, bugs persist. One example renders the new No Hesitation auto rifle ineffective against barrier champions due to a coding issue with its healing rounds.
The Hawkmoon exploit involved using the Kinetic Holster leg mod to prevent the cancellation of its Paracausal Shot perk, resulting in unlimited damage-boosted shots. This allowed players to achieve one-shot kills, prompting Bungie to swiftly disable the weapon in Crucible.
This action follows another recent exploit involving AFK farming in private matches, which yielded in-game resources and occasionally deepsight weapons. While that exploit was also quickly addressed, the removal of its rewards disappointed some players. The Hawkmoon issue, however, presented a more significant threat to gameplay balance.
