Conquering the fearsome Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds can feel like a fiery trial, but with the right strategy, you can emerge victorious (and with your meat intact!). This guide will cover Quematrice's weaknesses, effective strategies, attacks to avoid, and how to capture this fiery fowl.
Weaknesses, Resistances, and Immunities
The Quematrice, a giant chicken-like monster reminiscent of a Cockatrice, primarily attacks with fire. While it doesn't turn hunters to stone, its fiery breath is a significant threat. Most weapons are effective against this mid-sized monster. However, its attacks often affect a wide area, making ranged weapons a potentially safer choice for less experienced hunters.
Weaknesses: Water
Resistances: N/A
Immunities: Sonic Bomb
Dangerous Attacks to Avoid
While the Quematrice's tail sweeps and strikes can inflict damage, its most powerful attack is the tail slam. This involves a dramatic upward swing followed by a powerful downward strike. Sidestepping or blocking effectively negates this attack.
The most dangerous attacks are its fire-based assaults. These not only deal direct damage but also inflict the burning status effect, steadily draining your health and potentially igniting the ground around you. These attacks are difficult to predict precisely. One involves rearing its head and tail before unleashing a fiery blast. Another is a full 360-degree fiery sweep following a roar and a head/tail raise. It can also incorporate fire into a charging attack, turning at the last moment to blast you with fire. When facing these ranged attacks, retreat immediately.
How to Capture Quematrice
Capturing the Quematrice requires preparation. Bring both a Shock Trap and a Pitfall Trap, along with at least two Tranquilizer Bombs. While one trap is technically sufficient, having a backup is crucial, especially considering the possibility of escape or interference from other monsters.
Once the Quematrice is significantly weakened (indicated by limping or a disappearing skull icon on the mini-map), lay a trap. Ideally, wait until it moves to a new area after limping. Lure it into the trap, then deploy two Tranquilizer Bombs for a successful capture.
