The Witcher 4 Breakdown: How Ciri’s Combat Style Differs from Geralt’s

In The Witcher 4, a significant change is afoot: Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon, or Ciri, steps into the spotlight, replacing Geralt as the protagonist. This shift has naturally sparked considerable interest in how it will alter gameplay, especially the combat system. Recently, CD Projekt RED offered some intriguing insights during a podcast episode.

The developers highlighted a scene from the game's trailer showcasing Ciri battling a monster. She uses a chain—a charming callback to The Witcher 1—to subdue her foe. However, it's her fighting style that truly stands out: fluid, acrobatic, and distinctly different from Geralt's.

The developers described the contrast between Ciri and Geralt's combat approaches this way:

"There was this one scene where we see the chain, which is a tribute to The Witcher 1. When she grabs the monster’s head with it and pins it to the ground, she also performs an additional flip, which was really cool because you can’t imagine Geralt doing something like that. He’s very… I’d say he’s agile, but he’s also very… he feels almost like a ‘block’ in a way—he’s bulky and heavy. And she [Ciri] is just… she’s practically like liquid compared to [Geralt]."

This comparison perfectly encapsulates the difference. Geralt's combat is grounded in strength and precise strikes, while Ciri's is faster, more dynamic, and infused with her inherent agility. Her acrobatic maneuvers promise a thrilling, fresh combat experience unlike Geralt's more stoic and grounded approach.

With Ciri leading the charge in The Witcher 4, players can anticipate a more fluid and fast-paced combat system that reflects her unique personality and abilities. As CD Projekt RED continues to unveil details, excitement for the game only intensifies. Will Ciri's gameplay surpass Geralt's legacy? Only time will tell!
