Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

The Pokémon Company has confirmed it currently has no plans to include Pokémon TCG Pocket in its competitive circuit. This article explores the reasons behind this decision and looks ahead to the game's future.

Pokémon TCG Pocket: No Immediate Competitive Plans

In a recent interview with VGC (February 25, 2025), Chris Brown, Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, stated that while they constantly evaluate potential additions to their competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't currently on the list. He playfully mentioned Pokémon Sleep as another example of a title not currently considered, referencing a past April Fool's joke about a Pokémon Sleep championship. However, he emphasized that the decision regarding Pokémon TCG Pocket is not final, and future considerations remain a possibility.

Early Stages and Balancing Concerns

While no official reasons have been given, fan speculation points to the game's relative youth (only four months old, with two sets released since its October 2024 launch) and ongoing balance issues as potential factors. Although in-app competitive features exist, players have voiced concerns about balance inconsistencies. Furthermore, Pokémon TCG Pocket's simplified gameplay, designed for a broader audience, may not perfectly align with the competitive scene's demands.

Despite this, The Pokémon Company's competitive circuit remains robust, featuring events for Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all culminating in the Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim, California, in August 2025.
