Genshin Impact 5.5: Should You Pull for Varesa or Stick to Xiao?

Apr 18,2025 Author: Eleanor

In *Genshin Impact* Version 5.5, set to launch on March 26, players will encounter two new characters: Varesa and Iansan. Iansan is a 4-Star Electro Polearm, while Varesa stands out as a 5-Star Electro Catalyst. The Version 5.5 livestream showcased their abilities, with Varesa's kit drawing particular attention due to its striking resemblance to Xiao's playstyle.

How Is Varesa’s Playstyle Similar to Xiao’s in Genshin Impact?

Varesa’s kit is intriguing and unique, especially her Charged Attacks. She launches herself into the air, enabling Plunging Attacks while generating Nightsoul Points. As a character from Natlan, using this Charged Attack is key to accumulating Nightsoul Points.

Her Elemental Skill, Riding the Night-Rainbow, transforms her into a luchador pro wrestler, charging forward to deal Electro DMG. After activating this skill, her Normal Attacks turn into Plunging Attacks without consuming stamina, echoing Xiao's playstyle when he uses his Elemental Burst, Bane of All Evil, which enhances his jumping ability for continuous Plunging Attacks.

By performing enough Plunging Attacks, Varesa can enter a masked luchador state called Fiery Passion if her Nightsoul Meter is full, boosting her attacks and Burst. This makes Plunging Attacks a central aspect of her gameplay.

Should You Stick to Xiao or Pull for Varesa in Genshin Impact?

The key difference between Xiao and Varesa's Plunging Attack playstyle lies in their mechanics. Xiao needs his Elemental Burst to perform consecutive Plunging Attacks, while Varesa can initiate them through her Charged Attacks. This allows her to enter a powerful state and continue Plunging Attacks, enhancing her effectiveness.

If you're a fan of Xiao's playstyle and enjoy this type of gameplay, Varesa might be a worthwhile addition to your roster. Her ability to perform Plunging Attacks without relying on her Elemental Burst sets her apart. Additionally, she synergizes well with other Natlan characters to leverage Nightsoul’s Blessing.

However, consider that Xianyun will also be available in *Genshin Impact* 5.5 (Phase I) alongside Varesa. Xianyun is an excellent support for Plunging Attack users like Xiao. If you already have Xiao and lack Xianyun, pulling for her might be more beneficial. Otherwise, Varesa offers a fresh yet familiar gameplay experience.

Genshin Impact is available to play now.
