Application Description

Maximize your word count to achieve victory! Squares is a daily word puzzle game blending strategy and word-finding skills. The objective is to complete squares on a grid to form words and amass the highest possible score.

Gameplay:

Connect letters in any direction—up, down, left, right, or diagonally—to create words. The goal is to uncover all words hidden within the letter grid, earning points for each successfully identified word.

Game Rules:

• Scoring: Each letter in a valid word earns 1 point (e.g., a five-letter word scores 5 points).
• Word Length: Words must contain at least four letters.
• Letter Usage: Each tile can be used only once per word.
• Excluded Words: Hyphenated words, proper nouns, offensive language, and uncommon terms are excluded from the main word list.

Bonus Words:

Bonus words are less common, archaic, or slang terms. These words don't contribute to your score but appear in a separate bonus word list. The hunt for bonus words continues even after finding all main words (post-game). Each puzzle also includes a "Word of the Day"—a special, often longer bonus word—guessing it rewards you with two extra hints!

A new Squares puzzle is available daily at midnight.

Grid Rotation:

Need a fresh perspective? Rotate the grid left or right using the buttons in the bottom-right corner. Changing the grid's orientation can aid in discovering hidden words.

Letter Usage Hints:

After finding 40% of the words, a hint is revealed: a number appears on each letter, indicating how many words begin with that letter. The absence of a number signifies no words start with that letter. Letters turning orange indicate they've been used in all main words but may still appear in bonus words.

Hints:

Each puzzle offers 3 to 5 hints (lightbulb icons). Using a hint reveals the first letter of a random word and its search direction. The number of hints depends on puzzle difficulty. Sharing the game link with friends grants an additional hint! Enjoy the challenge and happy word hunting!
