Housemarque has unveiled their latest project, Saros, a thrilling follow-up to their 2022 roguelite shooter, Returnal. Set to release in 2026, Saros will be available on the PlayStation 5 and enhanced for the PS5 Pro, featuring the talented Rahul Kohli in a starring role.
Showcased during the recent PlayStation State of Play, Saros exudes the signature Housemarque aesthetic. Players will embody Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer on a mission to uncover truths on a perilous, ever-changing planet shadowed by an eclipse and dominated by a formidable entity. The game's thematic elements and the phrase "come back stronger" resonate strongly with the roguelite genre, while the dynamic spread of fireballs hints at Housemarque's affinity for bullet-hell challenges.
Creative director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-centric approach. This new single-player IP, while rooted in Returnal's third-person action, introduces innovative elements. Louden highlighted on the PlayStation Blog that a significant gameplay difference between Saros and Returnal lies in the implementation of permanent resources and progression. Although the world of Saros shifts with each player's death, there will be opportunities to permanently enhance weapons and suits, adding a fresh layer to the roguelite experience.
Anticipation builds as Housemarque promises to reveal an extended gameplay look later this year, offering more insights into what Saros has in store for gamers.
