A New Guitar Hero Wii Controller is Coming in 2025

Hyperkin is releasing a new Guitar Hero controller for the Wii, the Hyper Strummer, on January 8th, priced at $76.99 on Amazon. This unexpected release targets retro gamers seeking a nostalgic experience and those wanting to revisit the Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises.

The Wii's popularity peaked years ago, with production ceasing in 2013. Similarly, the last mainline Guitar Hero game was released in 2015, and the series' last Wii title appeared in 2010. Despite this, the Hyper Strummer offers a renewed opportunity to enjoy these classic rhythm games.

The Hyper Strummer, an updated model of a previous Hyperkin controller, is compatible with various Wii Guitar Hero and Rock Band titles, including Rock Band 2, 3, The Beatles, Green Day, and Lego Rock Band (but not the original Rock Band). It functions by connecting a Wii Remote to the back of the guitar.

Why a New Wii Controller Now?

The controller's market appeal might seem limited given the discontinued status of both the Wii and the Guitar Hero series. However, the Hyper Strummer caters to a specific niche: retro gamers. Many original Guitar Hero controllers are worn out, and official replacements are no longer available. This new controller provides a solution for those who want to relive the experience without faulty equipment.

Furthermore, Guitar Hero's popularity has recently seen a resurgence. The inclusion of a Guitar Hero-style experience in Fortnite's in-game events, and the rise of "perfect playthrough" challenges, have reignited interest in the franchise. A new, reliable controller is a significant advantage for players tackling these challenges. The Hyper Strummer provides a fresh, high-quality option for this dedicated player base.
