The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 premieres May 4, 2025, as exclusively revealed at IGN Fan Fest 2025.
IGN showcased an exclusive clip and interview featuring Scott Gimple (Chief Content Officer, The Walking Dead Universe), Lauren Cohan (Maggie), and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan) during Fan Fest 2025 Day 2.
Cohan offered insight into Maggie's mental state entering Season 2: "Sadly, not everything is as rosy as one might hope," she explained. "My son's a teenager, creating typical family tensions. Add Ginny into the mix, and we have relatable domestic dynamics playing out against the backdrop of the apocalypse—survival, safety, and sleep. That's our reality before the next big threat arrives."
Jeffrey Dean Morgan discussed Negan's precarious position: "Negan's firmly under the thumb of The Dama and The Croat, in unfamiliar territory," he said. "He'll scheme to regain control, but he's in a tough spot, struggling at the season's start. He's always plotting, but this time, he's truly challenged."
Morgan also reflected on Lucille, Negan's iconic barbed-wire bat: "Lucille... what can I say? I love it! It's the only prop I've enjoyed carrying around my whole career. It brings back fond memories—though not for Lauren!"
Gimple described the Season 2 conflict: "There's no single big bad. Power dynamics shift throughout the season. It's less purely antagonistic, more complex and political, before things get physical."
IGN also premiered the opening minutes of Season 2's first episode (see below).
