BioWare delivers both positive and negative news for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The game will launch without Denuvo DRM, but PC players will miss out on preloading.
Good News: No Denuvo DRM!
Bad News: No PC Preload
BioWare's Michael Gamble announced on Twitter (X) that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will not utilize Denuvo DRM on PC. This decision, driven by trust in the player base, has been met with enthusiastic approval. The absence of Denuvo, often associated with performance issues, is a welcome relief for many PC gamers.
The absence of DRM also means the game will not require always-online functionality, a point Gamble clarified in response to another user.
However, this positive news comes with a trade-off: no preload for PC players. This is a significant drawback given Veilguard's substantial 100GB storage requirement. Console players, however, can preload without issue. Xbox early access players can install now, while PlayStation early access players will have access starting October 29th.
Simultaneously, BioWare revealed the system requirements. High-end PCs will support ray tracing and uncapped frame rates, while minimum specs aim for broad accessibility. Consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S) will offer fidelity and performance modes targeting 30 and 60 FPS, respectively. To fully utilize ray tracing on PC, players will need an Intel Core i9 9900K or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X processor, 16GB of RAM, and either an Nvidia RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon 6800XT graphics card.
