This guide explores the Volcano Forge in Stardew Valley, a location where players can magically enhance their tools and weapons using gemstones, crystals, and Cinder Shards. The 1.6 update expanded these options, adding innate weapon enchantments and the ability to enchant the pan.
Obtaining Cinder Shards:
Cinder Shards, essential for all forge functions, are obtained by:
- Mining Cinder Shard nodes (pink-orange specks) in the Volcano Dungeon.
- Receiving them as drops from Magma Sprites, Magma Duggies, Magma Sparkers, and False Magma Caps (with varying drop rates).
- Harvesting from a fishing pond with at least seven Stingrays (a low daily chance).
Unlike gemstones, Cinder Shards can't be duplicated in the Crystalarium.
The Mini-Forge:
After achieving Combat Mastery, craft a Mini-Forge, replicating the Volcano Forge's functionality, using: 5 Dragon Teeth, 10 Iron Bars, 10 Gold Bars, and 5 Iridium Bars.
Weapon Forging:
Weapons (up to three times) can be enhanced with gemstones:
- Amethyst: +1 knockback per forge level.
- Aquamarine: +4.6% critical hit chance per level (cumulative).
- Emerald: +2/+3/+2 speed per level (cumulative).
- Jade: +10% critical hit damage per level (cumulative).
- Ruby: +10% damage per level (cumulative).
- Topaz: +1 defense per level (cumulative).
- Diamond: Three random upgrades (costs 10 Cinder Shards).
Optimal Weapon Upgrades: Prioritize Emerald and Ruby for increased damage and attack speed. Combine with Aquamarine or Jade for enhanced critical hits. For survivability (e.g., Qi Challenges), Topaz and Amethyst offer increased defense and knockback.
Unforging Weapons: Reset weapons to their original state (recovering some Cinder Shards, but not gemstones) using the red X in the forge. This removes forged upgrades but keeps enchantments.
Infinity Weapons:
Upgrade Galaxy Sword, Dagger, or Hammer into Infinity Weapons using three Galaxy Souls (each requiring 20 Cinder Shards). Forged upgrades and enchantments are retained.
Galaxy Souls:
Obtain Galaxy Souls by:
- Purchasing from Mr. Qi (40 Qi Gems each).
- Dropping from Big Slimes in Dangerous Mines or Qi's quests.
- Purchasing from the Island Trader (10 Radioactive Bars each, unlocked after killing 50 Dangerous Monsters).
- Dropping from Dangerous Monsters (unlocked after killing 50 Dangerous Monsters).
Enchantments:
Apply random enchantments to tools/weapons using a Prismatic Shard and 20 Cinder Shards. Re-enchant to try for a different effect.
Weapon Enchantments: Artful, Bug Killer, Crusader, Vampiric, and Haymaker (Bug Killer and Crusader are generally most useful).
Innate Weapon Enchantments: Use a Dragon Tooth to add one enchantment from each of two sets: Slime Slayer (+damage to Slimes, +Crit Power, +Attack, +Speed) and Slime Gatherer (+Slime drops, +Defense, -Weight).
Tool Enchantments: Twelve enchantments, each tool-specific (see detailed list in original text). Choose based on playstyle. For example: Bottomless for Watering Can, Shaving for Axe, Generous or Archeologist for Hoe/Pan, Swift/Powerful for Pickaxe, Preserving for Fishing Rod.
