Star Wars: Hunters, Zynga's first venture into the iconic franchise, is set to close its doors after just over a year of operation. Launched for iOS and Android in June 2024, the game quickly captured attention with its unique blend of game show aesthetics and innovative takes on classic Star Wars archetypes.
The closure of Star Wars: Hunters is scheduled for October 1st of this year. However, fans can look forward to a final content update on April 15th. This update will include the last new hunter, Tuya, who will be available for free-to-play in multiplayer from the start. Additionally, in-game currency is now refundable, and there will be reruns of seasonal events as part of an extended third season.
The announcement of the shutdown came as a surprise to many, as there were no clear signs that Star Wars: Hunters was underperforming. Given Zynga's robust standing in the industry, the decision to shutter the game suggests there were deeper reasons at play. One possible explanation could be the oversaturation of the pseudo-hero shooter genre and a mismatch with the current Star Wars audience, which tends to skew older and may not be as interested in a high-octane mobile multiplayer experience.
For those who haven't yet experienced Star Wars: Hunters, there's still time to dive in before the game is discontinued. Be sure to check out our tier list of Hunters in SW: Hunters, ranked by class, to get started on the right foot!
