Launching September 26th, Marvel’s Spider-Man will be the second fully draftable, Standard-legal set in Magic’s Universes Beyond line (following Final Fantasy), and the third overall after 2023's Lord of the Rings set. While there won't be preconstructed Commander decks, the cards in the Scene Box (pictured above) are specifically designed for Commander and will *not* be Standard-legal.
Following last year's Secret Lair featuring Wolverine, Captain America, and others, Spider-Man marks Magic's first full set inspired by Marvel comics. Wizards of the Coast Executive Producer, Max McCall, explains this choice: "Spider-Man needs a full set to do justice to the character and incorporate the many villains he’s faced. A smaller product wouldn't allow us to include all the characters and moments we wanted."
McCall further explains that designing for Universes Beyond flips the typical worldbuilding process. "Most people are familiar with Spider-Man, so we can focus on mechanical complexity, knowing the story will resonate. We don’t need ‘simple’ cards; we just need recognizable moments."

Head Designer Mark Rosewater highlights Magic's color pie's versatility in representing heroism and villainy. He uses Spider-Man as an example, explaining his alignment with white, blue, and green: "His obligation to help people is white; his scientific aptitude and inventions are blue; and his connection to spiders and destiny is green."
Beyond the Scene Box, the set includes Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, Bundles, and Prerelease Packs (see gallery for details). Welcome Decks will also return, offering new players a gentle introduction to the game.
Following this year's Final Fantasy set, Wizards of the Coast also announced an Avatar: The Last Airbender set, plus two more in-universe sets before that: Tarkir: Dragonstorm and Edge of Eternities.
