Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials and Games Catalog starting January 2026, focusing its efforts on PlayStation 5 titles.
This shift, announced alongside February 2025's PlayStation Plus monthly games, reflects Sony's observation that many players now primarily use PS5 consoles. The blog post clarified that already-obtained PS4 games remain accessible, and existing Games Catalog titles will remain available until their scheduled removal. Future PS4 game offerings will be infrequent.
Sony emphasized its commitment to enhancing PlayStation Plus, promising continued benefits like exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The company anticipates regularly adding new PS5 games to the monthly offerings.

With the PS5's release in 2020, following the PS4's 2013 debut, Sony noted a significant player migration to the newer console. The company hasn't confirmed whether PS4 games will transition to the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog (currently featuring PS1, PS2, and PS3 titles), but further details are expected closer to the implementation date.
