Silent Hill Transmission March 2025: Everything Announced and Revealed for Silent Hill f
Mar 19,2025Author: Natalie
Konami's latest Silent Hill Transmission unveiled Silent Hill f, a chilling new entry in the beloved horror franchise, transporting players to 1960s Japan.
First announced in 2022, Silent Hill f was described as a game set in a "beautiful, therefore terrifying" world. The game's narrative is penned by Ryukishi07, the acclaimed writer behind the Higurashi and Umineko visual novel series.
Now, after nearly three years, we have a much clearer picture of Silent Hill f.
Silent Hill f: Finding Beauty in Terror
Konami showcased a new trailer and revealed the game's core concept: "finding the beauty in terror" and presenting players with a crucial, terrifying choice within the backdrop of 1960s Japan.
While the nature of this choice remains shrouded in mystery, the story's premise was unveiled: "Shimizu Hinkao, an ordinary teenager, sees her life upended when her town is enveloped in fog and undergoes a horrific transformation. She must navigate this unrecognizable landscape, solving puzzles, battling strange enemies, and fighting for survival to ultimately confront a devastating decision. This is a tale of a beautiful yet terrifying choice."
This original story offers a welcoming entry point for newcomers while including Easter eggs to delight long-time fans. The game is set in the fictional Japanese town of Ebisugaoka, inspired by the real-world location of Kanayama, Gero, in Gifu Prefecture.
A Unique Vision of Horror
Creature and character designer kera shared their creative vision, emphasizing the challenge of crafting a new Silent Hill experience while honoring the series' legacy: "I love the Silent Hill series, and it's been a big influence on me. In particular, I am constantly remembering Silent Hill 2, and the messages on the walls, the music, and the monster designs. So, when it came to Silent Hill f, and bringing the setting to Japan, we had to come up with something that felt just a little different, and I had to really think about how to get that feeling. The monster designs were the hardest. I had to consider everything that's come in Silent Hill before, and figure out how to take this game in a different direction, but still be Silent Hill. It might not be the exact same blood-smeared, rusting scenery, but I sincerely hope you'll enjoy our vision and the world we've created."
A Harmonious Soundscape
Music plays a crucial role in Silent Hill f. The team has assembled a talented duo: long-time Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka and Kensuke Inage (known for his work on the Dynasty Warriors series), who will create the soundscapes for the Fog World and Otherworld, respectively. Inage described his approach: "I have composed music for an unsettling yet beautiful world that uses imagery from shrines, blending ancient Japanese court music with ambient echoes. I wove in various techniques that will connect the player to the protagonist's agony, internal conflict, fear, and other emotions."
While a release date remains unannounced, Silent Hill f is confirmed for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
