Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons: Leaked Images Reveal Magnetic Design and Color Scheme
Fresh leaks online appear to confirm the design of the Joy-Con controllers for Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2 console. While the original Switch continues to see new releases into 2025, the release of its successor seems imminent, with Nintendo promising an announcement before the end of their 2024 fiscal year. Anticipation is high, fueling a surge in rumors and leaks regarding the Switch 2's specifications and features.
With a rumored March 2025 launch date, speculation is rife, particularly concerning hardware details. Third-party developers and insiders have reportedly shared images of the console, adding to the growing body of information. Recent leaks have also focused on the Joy-Cons, including their color scheme and connection method. New images, shared on the r/NintendoSwitch2 subreddit by user SwordfishAgile3472, purportedly originating from a Chinese social media platform, provide the clearest look yet at the Switch 2's Joy-Cons.
These images, subsequently circulating across various social media platforms, showcase the back and side of a left Joy-Con, confirming the rumored magnetic connection system. Unlike the original Switch's rail-based system, these Joy-Cons appear to use magnets, eliminating the need for physical contact.
Decoding the Joy-Con Leak
The leaked images reveal a predominantly black Joy-Con with blue accents, echoing the original Switch's color palette. However, unlike the original blue Joy-Con, the blue appears to be confined to the magnetic connection area. The images also offer a glimpse of the button layout, revealing noticeably larger "SL" and "SR" buttons, plus an additional, unlabeled button on the back.
This extra button is speculated to be a release mechanism for the magnetic connection, facilitating easy detachment of the Joy-Cons from the console. The leaked Joy-Con design aligns with other recent leaks depicting the Switch 2 console and various mock-ups. However, official confirmation from Nintendo remains pending.
