Ratatan, the spiritual successor to the beloved Patapon series, has unveiled its official gameplay trailer, offering fans a thrilling glimpse into its innovative features and mechanics. The trailer, released during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, showcases the game's unique blend of rhythm roguelike action and side-scrolling gameplay, drawing on the elements that made Patapon a fan favorite.

The captivating new trailer from Ratatan Works provides an in-depth look at the game's mechanics, including a thrilling battle against a giant boss crab. Ratatan promises an engaging experience with its rhythm roguelike elements, allowing players to engage in massive melee battles with up to 100 characters. Additionally, the game supports online co-op gameplay for up to 4 players, enhancing the cooperative experience.
Developed by Hiroyuki Kotani, the creator of Patapon, and featuring music by the original Patapon musician Kemmei Adachi, Ratatan has successfully met its console launch stretch goal on Kickstarter in 2023, ensuring its availability on various gaming platforms.

Ratatan is gearing up for its closed beta, set to begin on February 27, 2025. Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared exciting updates on the game's progress, noting that Ratatan has surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam and received positive feedback on the Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo. While the game will not participate in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, the team is focused on delivering an improved demo version for the June festival.
The closed beta will initially include gameplay up to Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 being added progressively over the test period, which is expected to last about a month. Details regarding code distribution, start dates, and times will be shared through Discord and X as soon as they are finalized.
Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While an exact release date has yet to be announced, anticipation continues to build among fans eagerly awaiting this exciting new title.
