Pokémon Sleep's development is transitioning from Select Button to Pokémon Works, a newly established Pokémon subsidiary. This changeover will affect the game's ongoing development and future updates.
Pokémon Sleep Development Shifts to Pokémon Works
From Select Button to Pokémon Works
Following the March 2024 launch of Pokémon Works, a new subsidiary of The Pokémon Company, it's been announced that Pokémon Sleep's development and operation will move from Select Button to this new entity. The in-app announcement (via machine translation) stated that the transition will be gradual.
This announcement appeared initially in the Japanese version of the Pokémon Sleep app. The global app's news section hasn't yet reflected this change.
Pokémon Works, a collaboration between The Pokémon Company and Iruka Co., Ltd., is relatively new. Its Representative Director, Takuya Iwasaki, described the company as aiming to make Pokémon experiences more real and accessible. The company's past work includes contributions to Pokémon HOME. Their Tokyo office shares a location with ILCA, known for their work on Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
While their track record in Pokémon projects is currently limited, Pokémon Works expresses a vision of enhancing player interaction with Pokémon. The specifics of how this vision will be implemented in Pokémon Sleep remain to be seen.
