The Pokémon TCG: Scarlet and Violet - Prismatic Evolutions set marks the pinnacle of the build-up to Pokémania 2025. Its immense popularity led to swift sell-outs of preorders, with stock only recently becoming available again at retail and online stores. Despite the initial scarcity, it has swiftly become the crowning achievement of the Scarlet and Violet series, showcasing fan-favorite Eevee and its evolutions through stunning Special Illustration Rares and ultra-rare Master Ball foils.
This set is packed with over 200 cards, featuring powerhouse Pokémon such as Roaring Moon ex and Pikachu ex. It combines breathtaking artwork with competitive gameplay, making it essential for both collectors and competitive players. Enhanced pull rates for Special Illustration Rares increase the chances of finding those dream cards, even as demand soars.
Pokemon TCG: Prismatic Evolutions - Elite Trainer Box - Credit: The Pokemon Company. The latest expansion isn't just about visually appealing cards; it introduces innovative mechanics like Budew's game-changing free attack and enhances rarity tiers to excite pack openers. Whether you're aiming to collect the Eeveelution family or build a tournament-ready deck, Prismatic Evolutions offers a diverse range of options. This set is more than just an expansion; it's a defining moment for a new generation of Pokémon TCG enthusiasts.
In my experience, the pulls from Prismatic Evolutions have been challenging. This may not be universal, but it does suggest that the value of Special Illustration Rares and other high-tier cards might remain high. Despite opening 25 booster packs, I didn't strike gold, but let's explore some of the exciting cards I did manage to pull and discuss other notable additions to assess whether Prismatic Evolutions lives up to the hype.
Glaceon ex (Suprise Box Promo Stamp) 026/131
Credit: The Pokémon Company International / Christian WaitGlaceon ex has the potential to be a strong playable card, capable of accumulating enough damage on an opponent's bench to knock out a Pokémon before it even enters play. The challenge lies in managing multiple energies required for Tera ex-cards, but seeing a Glaceon Tera ex deck in action would be thrilling.
Eevee Elite Trainer Box Promo 173
Credit: The Pokémon Company International / Christian WaitWith its stunning full artwork, this Eevee card is more likely to find a home in collectors' binders than in competitive decks. However, it remains a standard Eevee card in the set, allowing immediate evolution, which simplifies building an Eeveelution deck.
Mela Trainer SAR 140/131
Credit: The Pokémon Company International / Christian WaitMela is a potent trainer card that can be strategically used to retrieve a fire energy from the discard pile and draw up to six cards, providing a significant advantage in the mid to late game. While this card is a collector's item, the standard Mela card is relatively easy to pull.
Pikachu ex 028/131
Credit: The Pokémon Company International / Christian WaitPrismatic Evolutions addresses the FOMO from Surging Sparks with Pikachu ex, which, despite not being a Tera ex, is a straightforward basic ex card. With Thunder, it can achieve one-hit knockouts in three turns, though it requires a high energy cost. Its one energy retreat cost makes it versatile for switching in and out of play.
Max Rod Ace Spec 116/131
Credit: The Pokémon Company International / Christian WaitThis card has the potential to turn the tide of battle by reclaiming energy cards from a knocked-out Tyranitar ex, allowing it to rebuild from the bench. It's one of the most impactful Ace Specs cards we've seen.
Espeon ex 034/131
Credit: The Pokémon Company International / Christian WaitEspeon ex decks will be formidable, capable of discarding cards from an opponent's hand and de-evolving opposing Pokémon, shuffling the evolution cards back into their deck. A deck built around four of these cards could drag out battles and wear down opponents significantly.
Tyranitar ex 064/131
Credit: The Pokémon Company International / Christian WaitAt first glance, Tyranitar ex seems very playable due to its Grind attack. However, as a second-stage evolution requiring at least three energy cards to be effective, it might not meet expectations.
My Favorite Prismatic Evolution Cards
While everyone is eager to collect the Eeveelution SIR cards from Prismatic Evolutions, there are other stunning artworks in this expansion that are worth considering if you come across them at a good price.
Dragapult ex SAR 165/131
Dragapult ex SAR 165/131 is one of my favorite artworks from this set, and I'm tempted to build a deck around Phantom Dive. With a two-energy cost for a combined 260 damage, 60 of which can be spread across the opponent's bench, it's an incredibly powerful move. Keep an eye on this card as its value may rise due to its desirability in decks.
Roaring Moon ex SIR 162/131
Credit: The Pokémon Company International / Christian WaitAnother heavy hitter, Roaring Moon ex SIR boasts stunning artwork. Its triple energy cost for attacks is steep, but as a basic Pokémon, it could be the deciding factor in a close battle. Building a deck around Stadium cards and supporting Roaring Moon ex sounds like an exciting challenge.
Umbreon ex SIR 161/131
Credit: The Pokémon Company International / Christian WaitAlthough the $1200+ price tag might keep Umbreon ex SIR out of most decks, its impressive moveset is tempting. Like Roaring Moon ex, it has the potential to turn a battle around at the last moment, requiring three different energy types. Building an Eeveelution deck around Umbreon ex could be a fun endeavor.
So, is Prismatic Evolutions worth the hype? Absolutely. It offers a wealth of cards for both collectors and competitive players. However, securing stock can be challenging, and pulling an elusive Eeveelution SIR remains a 1 in 900 booster pack chance. The set also introduces God packs and Master Ball cards, which are exciting additions, though very rare. Prepare for some pack-opening excitement.
Where to Buy Pokémon TCG: Prismatic Evolutions in 2025
