Unlocking Multiple Pets in Stardew Valley

Initially, you can adopt one pet. The 1.6 update allows for multiple pets, but first, you must maximize your existing pet's friendship. Daily tasks include filling their water bowl (except on rainy/snowy days) and petting them (indicated by a heart). Check their friendship level in the "Animals" menu. A full friendship meter triggers a message from Marnie, opening the adoption process. If you skipped your initial pet, Marnie's message arrives at the start of Year 2.

Before or after adoption, commission Pet Bowls from Robin (5,000g and 25 Hardwood). These are essential for maintaining pet friendship. Neglecting bowls may result in pets running away. Marnie sells optional decorative items like doghouses and cat trees.
