Mortal Kombat 1 added a secret fighter with a reference to a legendary rock band

This week, Mortal Kombat 1 rolled out a major update that not only introduced Conan the Barbarian to the fray but also surprised fans with an unannounced addition: a pink-clad ninja named Floyd. This secret fighter might seem like a playful nod, but Floyd is indeed a legitimate character you can battle in the game.

Floyd is a walking tribute to the legendary rock band Pink Floyd, with his design drawing inspiration from the iconic album cover of The Dark Side of the Moon, which famously depicts the dispersion of light into a spectrum of colors. In terms of gameplay, Floyd borrows moves from other ninjas; he can freeze opponents like Sub-Zero or launch spears akin to Scorpion. Adding to his unique charm, Floyd boasts an amusingly specific 1337 health points.

For long-time fans of the franchise, Floyd's introduction might evoke memories of Reptile, the secret fighter from the original Mortal Kombat. Just like Reptile, whose moveset was a mash-up of other ninjas and who was notoriously difficult to defeat, Floyd brings a sense of nostalgia and excitement.

The community is currently buzzing with efforts to unlock encounters with Floyd, as these seem to occur randomly. However, Floyd drops hints about specific challenges that players need to complete to trigger his appearance. While the exact method to consistently encounter him remains unconfirmed, the search continues, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the game.
