Marvel SNAP: The Best Moonstone Deck

Moonstone is the latest addition to Marvel Snap as an Ongoing card, with the unique ability to mimic the text of your other 1-, 2-, and 3-Cost Ongoing cards in her lane. Think of her as an enhanced version of Mystique. However, crafting a formidable deck around this powerful yet delicate card can be challenging, earning her the nickname "the Glass Cannon of Marvel SNAP."

After thorough testing, I've identified that the two best decks for Moonstone are those centered around Patriot and Tribunal. This guide will help you build and optimize both decks effectively. If you're still undecided about adding Moonstone to your collection, a brief review at the end will assist you in making that decision.

Moonstone (4–6)

Ongoing: Has the Ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-Cost cards here.

Series: Five (Ultra Rare)

Season: Dark Avengers

Release: January 15, 2025

The Best Deck for Moonstone

Moonstone excels in decks where she plays a supportive role rather than being the main win condition. For a reliable setup, consider integrating Moonstone into a Patriot-Ultron deck. The key is to have her replicate one or two essential Ongoing effects rather than depending entirely on her ability.

To create a Moonstone deck with Patriot and Ultron, include these cards: Brood, Mystique, Dazzler, Mockingbird, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Squirrel Girl, Blue Marvel, and Mister Sinister.

Patriot31
Ultron68
Brood32
Ant-Man11
Mystique30
Iron Man50
Mister Sinister22
Dazzler22
Squirrel Girl12
Mockingbird69
Blue Marvel53

Moonstone Deck Synergies

  • Prepare the board for buffs by playing Brood, Sinister, or Squirrel Girl.
  • Use one lane to play Patriot, Mystique, and Moonstone (preferably in that order).
  • Play Ultron in the final round to fill all locations and leverage the buffs one last time.
  • Iron Man, Blue Marvel, and Mockingbird serve as backup cards to compensate for any power deficit in one or two lanes if things go awry.

An Alternative Deck for Moonstone

My testing revealed that Moonstone offers incredibly engaging gameplay when combined with Onslaught and The Living Tribunal. If you prefer excitement over consistency, use Moonstone as a win condition alongside these cards: Onslaught, Living Tribunal, Mystique, Magik, Psylocke, Sera, Iron Man, Ravonna Renslayer, Captain America, Howard the Duck, and Iron Lad.

CardCostPower
Moonstone46
Onslaught67
The Living Tribunal69
Mystique30
Ravonna Renslayer22
Iron Man50
Captain America33
Howard the Duck12
Magik32
Psylocke22
Sera54
Iron Lad46

Here’s the ideal play line:

  1. Use Psylocke to play Moonstone early.
  2. Play Onslaught, Mystique, and Iron Man into her lane.
  3. In the final round, distribute the Power across all lanes with The Living Tribunal.

In this setup, Psylocke and Sera help you play key cards earlier, while Magik extends the match to allow for the play of Onslaught, followed by The Living Tribunal. Captain America and Iron Lad act as backups if you don't draw the necessary cards in time.

Many players predicted that the trio of Moonstone-Onslaught-Tribunal would become a staple in the metagame after Moonstone's release, with some even considering it her natural fit. However, few anticipated that she would have a formidable counter in this setup: Super Skrull.

How to Counter Moonstone

Unfortunately for Moonstone players, she’s an easy target for Super Skrull. Since her release, many players have been adding Super Skrull to their decks to counter Moonstone, and it works effectively. Enchantress, Rogue, and Echo also serve as counters to Moonstone, making her quite vulnerable.

The main drawback of Moonstone is that she absorbs the abilities of cards in her own lane. Unless you hide her behind cards like Invisible Woman, your opponent can easily neutralize that lane with Enchantress, Echo, or Rogue. Alternatively, they could play Super Skrull in another lane to dismantle your strategy.

Is Moonstone Worth It?

Moonstone is certainly worth your Spotlight Keys for several reasons: 1) Her robust ability will only grow more valuable as more Ongoing cards that synergize with her are released; 2) She’s included in a Spotlight Cache alongside two other Series Five cards, reducing the risk of unsuccessful pulls; and 3) She’s one of the most nostalgic new cards to join Marvel Snap. If you miss the thrill of executing crazy combos that drastically boost your board, Moonstone is a card you'll want to acquire.
