Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision

Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision to implement mid-season rank resets. The developer announced the change in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the negative feedback generated by Dev Talk 10, which detailed the controversial plan.
The initial plan, outlined in Dev Talk 10, would have seen players' ranks reset four divisions every 45 days. This was met with widespread criticism, with players citing the demotivating effect on climbing the competitive ladder.
Dev Talk 11 confirmed the complete reversal of the mid-season reset. Players will retain their current rank and score from the first half of the season. However, the end-of-season rank reset remains in place, still resulting in a six-division drop.
New Heroes and Other Updates Remain on Track

Despite the rank reset reversal, other planned updates are proceeding as scheduled. The highly anticipated addition of Human Torch and The Thing, expanding the hero roster to 39, is still on track for release. NetEase Games' commitment to adding two new playable characters per three-month season remains.
Reward structures for high-ranking players also remain unchanged. Players who achieved Gold rank or higher will still receive a free Invisible Woman costume. Grandmaster and above players will receive Crests of Honor. Additional rewards, including another free costume and Crests of Honor (for Grandmaster and above), will be awarded at the end of the season. Balance adjustments are also planned, though details are yet to be revealed.
Rapid Response and Community Engagement

The speed of Marvel Rivals' response to player concerns was widely praised. Within hours of the initial announcement, the developer addressed the criticism and implemented the reversal. This demonstrated a commitment to community feedback and active listening. The developers emphasized their dedication to creating the best possible game experience, highlighting the importance of community input in this process.
The mid-season update is scheduled for February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the latest news and updates, visit the official Marvel Rivals page.
