Capcom producer Shuhei Matsumoto hints at a possible return for the beloved original characters from Marvel vs. Capcom 2. This exciting news comes on the heels of the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, a remastered collection of classic games in the series.

Matsumoto, speaking at EVO 2024, stated that the return of Amingo, Ruby Heart, and SonSon in a future game is "always a possibility." The release of the Fighting Collection offers a prime opportunity to reintroduce these characters to a wider audience, potentially sparking enough interest for them to appear in other Capcom fighting games like Street Fighter 6.

The Marvel vs. Capcom series, featuring characters from both Capcom and Marvel universes, hasn't seen a new entry since Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite. The Fighting Collection, encompassing six classic titles including Marvel vs. Capcom 2, aims to reignite fan interest in these iconic characters and the series as a whole. These original characters, previously only seen in minor cameos, could finally get their due.

Matsumoto emphasized that Capcom's plans for future Marvel crossovers and the re-release of other legacy fighting games depend heavily on fan response. The team has been working towards this collection for years, navigating collaborations with Marvel and overcoming scheduling challenges. Their goal is not just to create a new Versus title, but also to bring other classic fighting games to modern platforms with updated features like rollback netcode.

The producer highlighted the importance of reintroducing these classic titles to a new generation of players. While acknowledging logistical hurdles, Matsumoto expressed Capcom's commitment to revitalizing the community by bringing back beloved games and potentially, their beloved characters.
