Longvinter, after a three-year journey through early access on Steam, has officially launched version 1.0! This release incorporates extensive player feedback and bug fixes, delivering a revitalized experience for both veteran and new players.
This major update introduces a significant gameplay element: oil rigs scattered throughout the archipelago. Players can now extract oil, process it into fuel, and engage in intense combat with LRI mercenaries guarding these vital supply lines. Adding to the dynamic gameplay, new events have been implemented, including helicopter crashes providing valuable tactical gear and an hourly underground arena offering lucrative rewards for victorious combatants.
The game world is significantly enhanced with the addition of diverse wildlife, including tamable mounts such as lynxes, wolves, wolverines, foxes, moose, and goats. A plethora of new items are available, ranging from beneficial hats and protective vests to an array of weapons, explosives, culinary recipes, and interactive building/decorating objects. These additions include oil refineries, refrigerators, microwaves, power poles, and even turrets. Weapon balancing has also received substantial attention in this update.
Future plans are already underway, with the upcoming 1.1 update promising farming mechanics, a streamlined tutorial, apartment rentals, and the establishment of shared communities. Furthermore, Longvinter's expansion beyond the PC platform is confirmed, with a PlayStation release slated for 2026.
