Warhorse Studios confirms that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2), their upcoming medieval RPG, will launch completely DRM-free. This follows online speculation and misinformation suggesting otherwise.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2: No DRM, Period
Dismissing DRM Rumors
Responding to persistent fan inquiries, Warhorse Studios' PR head, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, explicitly stated during a Twitch stream that KCD2 will not utilize any DRM, including Denuvo. He attributed the confusion to miscommunication and inaccurate reports, urging players to cease inquiries about DRM integration. Stolz-Zwilling emphasized that any unconfirmed information circulating online is false.
The absence of DRM is significant, given the performance concerns often associated with such technologies. Denuvo, in particular, has faced criticism for potentially impacting game performance and playability, especially on PC. While Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, attributes the negative perception to misinformation and confirmation bias, the controversy remains.
KCD2, set in medieval Bohemia, follows Henry, a blacksmith's apprentice, as he confronts the devastation of his village. Launching February 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, backers who contributed at least $200 to the Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy.
