Dune: Awakening, the upcoming multiplayer survival game inspired by the iconic 1965 science fiction novel, is set to launch on May 20. Funcom, the game's developer, has confirmed that this release will be the full version, bypassing any early access phase. In a significant departure from the norm among its competitors like Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, and EVE Online, Dune: Awakening will not require a monthly subscription. Instead, the game will receive ongoing support through free updates that introduce new content, features, and enhancements. Funcom's track record with live service games like Anarchy Online, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year, and Conan Exiles, which continues to be updated with free content, DLCs, and expansions, underscores their commitment to long-term game support.

Pre-Orders and Game Editions
Following the announcement, pre-orders for Dune: Awakening went live, offering players a chance to secure one of three editions: Standard, Deluxe, or Ultimate. Pre-ordering any edition grants access to two unique in-game items: the Terrarium of Muad'Dib, a detailed in-base decoration, and the Sunset Dye Global Swatch, a distinctive color pattern applicable to weapons, vehicles, and armor.

Opting for the Deluxe or Ultimate edition provides players with a 5-day head start, allowing them to dive into the game on May 15. The Deluxe edition includes a Season Pass with four DLCs, the first of which will feature placeables inspired by Arrakis' wildlife, including Shai-Hulud. The subsequent three DLCs are slated for release later. Additionally, this edition comes with the Sardaukar Bator Armor, worn by the elite military force in the game, and a copy of the base game.
The Ultimate edition builds on the Deluxe edition by offering the Dusk Rider Sandbike Swatch and Blue Dasher Ornithopter Swatch, unique color patterns for your sandbike and ornithopter, respectively. It also includes the Caladan Palace Building Set, inspired by the 2021 film, the Dune 2021 Film Stillsuit worn by Paul Atreides, a 50-page digital artbook showcasing development artwork, and a 90-minute digital soundtrack from the game.
